where did illegal street racing start

If you ask where did illegal street racing start, some might tell you that it originated some time around the 1930s and derived from alcohol prohibition in the U.S.  During this time smugglers of illegal alcohol would work and prod on their automobiles with the objective being to create a faster and better handling car. Whether this is correct or not is unsure but what isn’t up for debate is that street racing has been a part of the American Car Culture since the introduction of the motor and buggy.

Fast forward through the years and you see the activity of street racing continuing  to grow in popularity with the only major difference from the early days being the type of vehicles drivers are racing. This all became reality with the advent of the sports compact car scene, modern day muscle cars, and the import car scene.

One other thing that psychologist believe has also contributed to the growth of street racing is how the car becomes indelibly stamped into a mans consciousness as a key symbol of masculinity, now there may be some truth to this because what man do you know that doesn’t on some level identify himself with his car or bike?
