Ron Hornaday Jr. Took the Chequered at O’Reilly 200
Saturday night at the Memphis Motorsports Park Ron Hornaday Jr. Took the Chequered in the O’Reilly 200 Craftsman Truck Series race. By all opinions he really dominated this race setting the pace for 139 of the 204 total laps. Hornaday Jr. drove the #33 Chevrolet, owned by Team Kevin Harvick Inc., too the win with the next closet driver Erik Darnell finishing .269 seconds behind.
Racking up his third win for the season it did not come with out some hurdles. Hornaday had to battle thru several caution flags during the race, the third having left him back in seventh place after making the choice to pitt. It took about 30 laps for him to get back into second place and soon after he skillfully maneuvered into the first spot.
Enduring several more cautions after this, which depleted the four second lead Jr. had built up, he had to repeatedly work to establish a margin of space between him and second place. Most notably with 34 laps left Ron had to again be faster than Erik Darnell off the start to retain the lead position. Coming to a culmination with 3 laps to go, again a caution flag came out ( No.9 to be exact ), setting up a green, white, checkered finish and once again Hornaday Jr. managed to prevail again, when he needed to, by timing the green flag brilliantly and stretching it into a 3 car length lead to win the race without a charge from any other driver.
