The richmond international raceway is located inside of the 1000 acre, multi use Richmond Raceway Complex.  Also known as RIR for short, this 3/4 mile, D-shaped race course is located in Henrico County right outside of Richmond, Virginia. Richmond Internationals design is a fan favorite because it allows drivers to run 3 and 4 wide while still maintaining high speeds and the type of racing more associated with superspeedways.  This design combination also gives drivers the ability to bump and bang up against each other while still needing to exhibit skill and technique in order to win.

RIR boasts a 33 straight NASCAR Sprint Cup Series sellouts while hosting  tremendously large crowds each season for its NASCAR Nationwide Series and IndyCar® Series races. In the 2006-2007 off season, Richmond International Raceway built an additional 5,000 seats, boosting its maximum capacity to 112,029 fans. One other claim to fame for RIR is the recognition of being the only track to hold all of its major race events at night under the showcase of lights.
