pocono raceway

The pocono raceway, formerly known as Pocono International Raceway, is design with hair pin style turns similar to those on road courses. The banking in these turns are steeper than most other race tracks, which makes it unique and also the reason that this 2.5 mile raceway is the host of two Nascar Sprint Cup events.
The tri-oval also includes three separate infield sections of racetrack – North Course, East Course and South Course. Every one of these infield sections is able to use a separate portion of the tri-oval to bring the track together as one whole. On any given non-race weekend it’s common to see multiple car organizations driving on different infield sections of the track. Some of these infield sections can operate in both directions or even connect, for example running the North Course and the South Course by including the tri-oval in order to combine the two.
Being in the the Magic Triangle has also contributed to the Pocono success. The magic comes from New York, Philadelphia and the Pocono Raceway all being 90 miles away from each other. With New York boastin the #1 TV market and Philadelphia the #4 TV market, this means the Pocono race facility is within 200 miles of 60 million potential race fans and when you toss in the fact that the average Nasca fan travels around 300 miles to see a race this gives Pocono the highest fan population density of any track.
