With one of the fastest speedway tracks in the Nascar series, michigan international speedway has earned this reputation because of its wide sweeping corners and super long straightaways that produce average qualifying speeds well in excess of the 190 mph mark.
Residing on a 1,400 plus acre lot construction of Michigan International Speedway began in 1967. Interestingly enough to build the 2 mile D – shaped oval track required the transporting of 2.5 million yards of dirt to the current location of Michigan Speedway as it used to be called. The facility has fan capacity of 137,243 spectators who come to see the Nascar Sprint Cup, Nationwide and Craftsman Truck Series events.
If it wasn’t enough that MISspeedway has an enormous amount of racing tradition entriched in its history, but the facility also holds the title for hosting the largest single day paid admission sporting event in the state amd has held it since 1991.
