Jenson Button And Rubens Barrichello Finish One-Two For Brawn Mercedes

Mercedes Sweeps 2009 F1 Australian Grand Prix in nearly unprecedented style and with pure exhilarating racing grit.  This past weekend Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello finished first and second at Melbourne, handing the Brawn-Mercedes team its 1st victory in its debut race.  The last time this was done was over fifty years ago.  To round out the top three position was last years F1 Champion, Lewis Hamilton who started the race back in 18th spot and with some precise driving earned McLaren-Mercedes a 3rd place pole finish.

It was an exciting ending to the first race of the Formula One season that has introduced several major changes to the racing circuit.  None any bigger than the KERS technology, which stands for Kinetic Energy Recovery System.  Along with the cars new designs the kers is also a part of the mechanical structure of these race cars.

Mandatory on every F1 car in 2010, the KERS technology allows the the car to draw 60 Kw of energy from the rear axle on the car, which then can be stored up to a total of 400kJ (111 watt hour) of energy per lap. This energy can be reused in the form of a ‘boost’ button from the drivers seat. Kers regenerates the stored energy during the braking process which allows the driver to then use 60 Kw (82 hp) for 6.6 seconds on any lap.
