Want to own the Dale Earnhardt number 3 Monte Carlo, the hood of the car that crashed in the 1997 Daytona 500 is going to be auctioned off to the highest bid. During the final laps of the race Earnhardt using skill and determination had positioned his car into second place and began to battle Jeff Gordon for the lead.  Amidst the struggle with Jeff he lost control of his Goodwrench Chevy and hit the wall at around 200 mph and rolled the black monte carlo multiple times before finishing the roll back on his wheels.

The mystiqe of this car and Dale Earnhardt was solitified when after being pulled out of the car earnhardt recognized that the car could still go.  That’s right the car started back up and instead of going to the hospital Earnhardt jump back into the battered race car and drove it to the pits for repair and a new set of rubber and from there he got back on the track and finished the race.

After completing the race the hood was removed where it was autographed by the car’s owner Richard Childress and crew chief Larry McReynolds.
